The Putz Project... still on the bucket list

I started my "putz project" back in December 2010 and to date it's been the MOST popular post on my blog. I won't even tell you how many blog hits I have received since then... and all from people who I am assuming are interested in making their own putz and/or cardboard houses for their own Christmas scenes.

It's a fun project to start, a very time consuming project (if you build them to last) and one that you can build on through the years and perhaps hand down to other generations.

All that being said, I have still not completed my putz houses.
In 2010 I started with the Martha Stewart type putz house. Links to different house pattern sites are listed in the "putz project" link above. The Martha houses are very nice, but a bit too large for my current tastes ~ so if I was to ever make that type of house again I would scale them down. You can see what that style looks like below.

In 2011 (I think it was), I began collecting vintage putz houses, so the ones I have made since are patterned after them. I do prefer them because they take up less space and seem "more vintage" to me, even though my chosen colour palette was not. I also tried to colour coordinate my paper window and door inserts to match the house colour scheme, which I think looks much nicer.

These ones pictured below still need a bit of glitter here and there, but apart from that I am happy with the result. This time I used mini bottle brush trees (I bleached them to tone them down) vs. the chenille bump stems I had used in 2010 that are decorating the landscape of the Martha houses.

Perhaps in 2013 I will carry on with some other style of houses to add to this unfinished project... then again maybe I should finish these first.

In the meantime, "Happy putz making everyone!!" ~ Lori

House cleaning...

Actually more like blog cleaning!
And after yesterday's blog post mishap, some serious attention was needed. It's funny (as in NOT so much) how a Blogger blog can go into a frenzy and morph your blog template into something almost unrecognizable after you add a widget.

In the end, the fix itself was very easy (as in removal of the blog post using said widget) - but the headache involved in trying to fix said issue prior to this discovery was not! I have subsequently lost one part of my blog template. And for the life of me, I don't know what it's called, so I can't "Google" an answer. I thought it was navigation, but that's not it.
Anyway, signing into my blog now to write a post is another few clicks I didn't have to make previously :(
And now as I am writing this post I seem to be missing some of the icons that were available in the menu. I cannot see "insert image", (which I generally use), "insert a video" (use rarely), "Bold, italic and underline icons are not visible, though I can mouse over all of those areas and manage.

But WOW... live and learn... and I have. I have a backup of my blog template, emailed myself the file so I don't lose it. It's on our email server in a folder... just waiting for the next time Blogger decides to go haywire.

Long story short, I pared down my blog link list and website link list, stopped following a bunch of blogs I rarely look at and deleted a couple of the other blogs I had.

On the upside after 24 hours of "playing" around in the html of the template I do know more than I did... surprisingly I found it interesting how one little set of brackets and/or missing one <> can upset the balance.

Anywho, that's all for now. Cheers! ~ Lori

It's been a while...

since I last posted. I have admittedly been tardy with blog posts this year and I guess that's because I haven't really felt as though too many really interesting things were happening around here.

Aside from the non interesting bits (aka boring stuff) I have been busy designing new fabrics for my Spoonflower store. And this past week I received 2nd place in the "Eighties Embroidery" themed Spoonflower contest with my homage to Keith Haring. Oh and if you check out this link, you'll see my Halloween fabric is featured on the Spoonflower/shop page. I am pasting a pic in for those who don't want to see the full page and/or click the link.
Picture is © Spoonflower/Retro Rudolph's.
But how cool is that?
Pretty damn cool and I was really thrilled to be asked by Spoonflower if they could use it :)
Prior to this weeks 2nd place ranking I won a Spoonflower "Camping" themed contest... not bad eh? Here's a pic of my design :)
Apart from all this recent excitement I thought I'd show you a couple of other pics... just for fun!

See this... well that's mostly unfinished work. It's been behind closed doors for several months now. Quite a few of these papier mache pieces will eventually get finished... like my larger devil and witch luminaries, ahem ~ I should say Boo's luminaries because he's laid claim to them, or did do back when I was initially sculpting them.

Now onto this pic... yes, it's obviously my studio/dining room/work area BUT notice how tidy it is. Tidy is cool... and a refreshing change indeed!

Well, that's all I have to show and tell for now. Wishing my Canadian friends a Happy Thanksgiving and everyone else a great week!
Cheers! ~ Lori

Coming soon to my Zazzle store!

I will admit it, I absolutely LOVE the fact that Zazzle now has the option to have/sell pillows in our stores, oh and they also have kitchen towels. Yippee!!

So guess what I have been doing all day long and into the wee morning hours?
That's right ~ you probably guessed ~ but just to be sure... I am including a partial screen shot I just snapped of some of the pillows I will be offering in my store.
I have sixteen tea towels/kitchen towel designs in total (so far) and twenty eight different pillows. Twelve of which are 20 inches square, and the other sixteen are lumbar type pillows.

I am super excited! Can you tell?
Anyway, my new goodies should be viewable/for sale within 24 hours... so if you are in the market for some Halloween themed pillows or tea towels, please do pop into my Zazzle store in the next day or two to see what I have available.

Cheers for now! ~ Lori
